Join us on June 12 from 6-8PM for a Curator Talk featuring our Spring 2026 Guest Curator, Dr. Aleesa Pitchamarn Alexander! As Guest Curator, Dr. Alexander will travel to San Antonio this June to conduct studio visits with Texas-based artists and select her regional artist for the Spring 2026 International Artist-in-Residence Program. During this Curator Talk, Dr. Alexander will offer insights into her career, curatorial practice, and early vision for the upcoming residency.
Born in Bangkok, Thailand, Dr. Alexander received her Ph.D. in art history from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2018. She currently serves as the Robert M. and Ruth L. Halperin Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art and Co-Director of the Asian American Art Initiative (AAAI) at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University.
At the Cantor, Dr. Alexander has curated Spirit House (Sept. 4, 2024–Jan. 26, 2025), Livien Yin: Thirsty (Aug. 21, 2024–Feb. 23, 2025), Dwelling: New Acquisitions (Oct. 4, 2024–ongoing), The Faces of Ruth Asawa (July 2022–ongoing), and East of the Pacific: Making Histories of Asian American Art (Sept. 28, 2022–Feb. 12, 2023).
Together with Assistant Professor of Art History Marci Kwon, Dr. Alexander co-founded the AAAI—an ongoing initiative that advances research, education, community engagement, and public access to the work of Asian American and diasporic artists. She leads the AAAI’s curatorial program, cultivating relationships with community members, donors, artist estates, and living artists to expand the Cantor’s collection of Asian American art, now considered one of the most significant in the country.
